Privacy Policy

Beacon Co-Parenting App ("we", "us") is a co-parenting app that helps separated parents in Ireland coordinate messages, a shared calendar, child handovers, shared expenses and important documents. This policy explains what personal data we collect, why, and your rights under the EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) and Irish data protection law.

Information we collect

  • Account details — your name, email address and a securely hashed password.
  • Identity verification — as a child-protection measure every parent must upload a photo of their ID (or proof of address, such as a domestic/utility bill). This is sensitive personal data and is stored privately. Only you and our moderation team can ever view it; your co-parent cannot. Once we have verified your identity — by confirming that the applicant's name matches the document — your photo ID or bill is permanently deleted within 14 working days. We do not keep it for any longer than is necessary to complete that check.
  • Hub & child information — the children you add and the Co-Parenting Hub you belong to.
  • Content you create — messages, calendar events, handovers, expenses and documents you share within your Co-Parenting Hub.
  • Billing data — if you make a purchase (such as the Court-Ready Record), payments are processed by Stripe; we store only the identifiers needed to manage your purchases, never your card number.

How we use your data

We use your data only to provide the service: to run your account, let you and your co-parent coordinate, verify identities for child safety, process payments, send you account and notification emails, and keep the service secure. We do not sell your personal data or use it for advertising.

Children's data

Beacon Co-Parenting App is used by adults (parents and guardians). Information about children is entered by their parents to coordinate care. We treat this information as confidential and only make it available within the child's own Co-Parenting Hub and, where necessary, our moderation team.

Messages and record integrity

Messages between co-parents form a shared record that may be relied on for important family matters. For this reason messages cannot be deleted by anyone — not by either parent and not by our staff. Please keep this in mind before sending a message.

Deleting your account

You can permanently close your account at any time from Settings → Sign-in & security → Delete account. When you do, we:

  • erase your personal data — your name, email, password, profile photo and your uploaded ID document;
  • remove your fingerprint / Face ID sign-in credentials;
  • cancel any active billing (such as a legacy subscription) so you are no longer charged;
  • deactivate the account so it can no longer be signed into.

What we retain, and why: to protect the integrity of the shared hub record (see above) and meet child-protection obligations, the messages, calendar events, handovers and expenses you created remain visible to your co-parent, but are shown without your personal details (as "Deleted user"). This limited retention is necessary for the legitimate interests of the other parent and the child. You can request a copy of your data or raise a concern by emailing us at the address below.

Who we share data with

We share data only with service providers that help us run the app, under appropriate safeguards:

  • Stripe — payment processing.
  • Email delivery providers — to send account, invite and notification emails.
  • Cloud hosting & storage — to host the app and store uploaded files securely.

Sharing with legal advisers. Either parent may share their view of the shared record (messages, calendar, handovers, expenses and maintenance log) with their own legal adviser — for example through the "Invite My Solicitor" feature, which gives a named solicitor time-limited, read-only access. This mirrors what each parent can already lawfully do (the shared record is visible to both parents, who may show it to their advisers), so the other parent is not separately notified. Solicitor access is view-only, is limited to the shared record (never ID documents, account settings or community-forum activity), records when it was last used, and can be withdrawn by the inviting parent at any time.

Where your data is stored

The app is hosted on Replit's cloud infrastructure, which runs on Google Cloud data centres. Your data — including your account, messages, documents and uploaded files — may therefore be stored on servers located outside the European Economic Area, including in the United States.

Where data is transferred outside the EEA, it is protected by safeguards recognised under GDPR — the EU–U.S. Data Privacy Framework and/or the European Commission's Standard Contractual Clauses. The same applies to our service providers (such as Stripe for payments and our email delivery provider), who may also process data outside the EEA under equivalent safeguards.

Cookies

We use only the small number of cookies that are strictly necessary to run the app — we do not use any advertising, tracking, or analytics cookies, so no cookie consent banner is required. Specifically:

  • A sign-in (session) cookie — this keeps you securely logged in as you move around the app. Without it you would have to sign in again on every page.
  • Stripe cookies — when you make a payment, Stripe sets cookies to process the transaction and help prevent fraud. These are only used on the payment screens.

Because these cookies are essential to providing a service you have asked for, we do not need your consent to use them. You can block or delete cookies in your browser settings, but parts of the app — including signing in and paying — may then stop working.

Security

Passwords are hashed, sessions are protected, and identity documents are kept in private storage accessible only to you and our moderators. No system is perfectly secure, but we take reasonable measures to protect your information.

Your rights

Under GDPR you have the right to access, correct, export or erase your personal data, and to object to or restrict certain processing. You can exercise most of these directly in the app, or by contacting us. You also have the right to lodge a complaint with the Irish Data Protection Commission (dataprotection.ie).
