Terms & Conditions

Last updated 25 June 2026

These Terms & Conditions ("Terms") govern your use of the Beacon Co-Parenting App ("the app", "we", "us"), a service that helps separated parents and guardians in Ireland coordinate messages, a shared calendar, child handovers, shared expenses and important documents. By creating an account and ticking "I have read and agree", you accept these Terms and our Privacy Policy. If you do not agree, you may not use the app.

1. Who can use the app

You must be at least 18 years old and be a parent or legal guardian of the child or children you coordinate care for. The app is intended for use by adults; children do not hold accounts.

2. Your account and responsibilities

  • Provide accurate information and keep your login details secure. You are responsible for activity that happens under your account.
  • As a child-protection measure, every parent must upload a photo of a valid government-issued ID before using the app (see section 4).
  • Use the app lawfully and respectfully. You must not harass, threaten, abuse or defame any person, post unlawful content, or use the app to circumvent a court order.
  • You must not attempt to access another hub's data, disrupt the service, or misuse it in any way.

3. Messages and record integrity

Messages between co-parents form a shared record that may be relied on for important family matters and, where relevant, in legal proceedings. For this reason messages cannot be deleted by anyone — not by either parent and not by our staff. Please consider this before sending a message. Our moderation team may flag or annotate messages for safety and oversight purposes.

4. Child protection

The safety and welfare of children is our priority. To help confirm that the adults using the app are who they say they are, every parent must verify their identity with a photo of an official ID. Your ID is stored privately and is visible only to you and our safeguarding team — never to your co-parent.

We may review, retain, suspend access to, or report content where we reasonably believe it is necessary to protect a child or to comply with the law. Information about children is entered by their parents solely to coordinate care and is treated as confidential.

5. Payments

Every tool in the app is free to use, with no subscription. The paid items are the Court-Ready Record — a one-off purchase at the price shown in the app at the time of purchase — and an optional one-off top-up pack of extra general moderator contacts beyond the free monthly one (contacts about a child's welfare or safety are always free). Payments are processed securely by Stripe; we do not store your card details. If you hold a legacy subscription from an earlier version of the service, it continues on its existing terms and renews automatically until cancelled. You can cancel at any time, and you can permanently close your account from Settings → Sign-in & security → Delete account, which also stops future billing. Except where required by law, payments already made are non-refundable.

6. Data protection (GDPR)

We process your personal data in accordance with the EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) and Irish data-protection law. Full details of what we collect, why, how long we keep it, who we share it with, and your rights (including access, correction, export, erasure and the right to complain to the Irish Data Protection Commission) are set out in our Privacy Policy, which forms part of these Terms.

7. Cookies

We use only the cookies that are strictly necessary to run the app — principally a secure session cookie that keeps you signed in. We do not use advertising or third-party tracking cookies, and we do not sell your data. Because these cookies are essential to providing the service, the app cannot function without them, and we do not require your consent to use them (and show no cookie consent banner).

8. Availability and changes

We aim to keep the app available and reliable, but we provide it on an "as is" and "as available" basis and cannot guarantee uninterrupted access. We may update, suspend or withdraw features, and we may change these Terms from time to time. When we make a material change, we will ask you to read and accept the updated Terms the next time you use the app.

9. Suspension and termination

We may suspend or terminate your access if you breach these Terms, misuse the app, or where necessary to protect another user or a child. You may stop using the app and delete your account at any time. Certain shared records are retained after deletion as described in our Privacy Policy.

10. Intellectual property and acceptable use

The app — including its software, source code, design, layout, text, graphics, and the "Beacon Co-Parenting App" name and logo — is owned by us or our licensors and is protected by copyright, trademark and other intellectual property laws. We grant you a limited, personal, non-exclusive and non-transferable licence to use the app to coordinate care for your own children. We reserve all other rights.

You agree that you will not, and will not permit anyone else to:

  • copy, reproduce, modify, adapt, translate, republish, distribute, sell, rent, sub-licence or otherwise commercially exploit any part of the app;
  • reverse-engineer, decompile, disassemble or otherwise attempt to derive the source code or underlying ideas of the app, except to the limited extent this restriction is prohibited by applicable law;
  • create a competing or substantially similar product or service based on the app, or use the app to build, train or benchmark such a product;
  • access the app or its interfaces by any automated means (bots, scrapers or crawlers), or extract, harvest or bulk-download data, other than through the normal in-app features provided to you;
  • remove, obscure or alter any copyright, trademark or other proprietary notice; or
  • use the "Beacon Co-Parenting App" name, logo or branding without our prior written permission.

Breach of this section is a serious breach of these Terms and may result in immediate suspension or termination of your account, in addition to any other remedies available to us in law.

11. Limitation of liability

The app is a coordination tool and is not a substitute for legal, medical or professional advice. To the fullest extent permitted by law, we are not liable for indirect or consequential loss, or for decisions you make based on information stored in the app. Nothing in these Terms limits any liability that cannot lawfully be limited.

12. Governing law

These Terms are governed by the laws of Ireland, and the courts of Ireland have jurisdiction over any dispute arising from them.
